| Alan Wins Millard Trophy 2009 |
|
The Millard Trophy is awarded annually by Motorsport Ireland. Awarded in memory of Jimmy Millard, it is made to a competitor who makes a contribution to Motorsport outside of competition. Jimmy Millard, as well as being a competitor, was very active in organising events, especially for the MG Car Club, of which he was a founder member. Affiliated clubs, make their nominations and the winner is chosen by a panel representing the various disciplines of the sport. The 2009 winner is Alan Kessie. A lifelong motorsport fan, Alan began competing in 1996. He subsequently set up his own race team ASK Racing, which has since branched out into preparation, storage and maintenance of race and hillclimb cars. Presenting the award, Dermott Quigley had this to say: “Alan’s contribution in 2009 has been notable for two things. Race Committee under the leadership of Ann Stevens organised an “ Introduction to Motorsport Day” at Mondello and Alan put in much work to promote and help run the event, including supplying cars. Then in August, Alan again put his shoulder to the wheel and gave great support to the organising of the Phoenix Park. This is to omit his role in the memorable visit of 8 Irish competitors to a French hillclimb - ask about that over a drink ! Alan is a true example of what the Millard Trophy is intended to encourage” |
